first attempt at iRobot Telepresence, a modified Roomba robot was a false start, but now they are back with a whole new robot called AVA to right the wrongs. The bot can adjust his own height of three feet to 5 feet to meet you at eye level, with a Tablet perched on top (CES 2011, after all). Its base is a strange three-wheeled configuration for maneuverability and the robot DARPA challenge-style environment mapping to avoid bumping into something or someone. For sensors AVA uses sensors PrimeSense Kinect-style double, laser rangefinders, acoustic sensors to scan and bump sensors. There is naturally a microphone and camera main objective of the bot: Telepresence video. More interesting, however, is that iRobot has apps platform to enable developers to build new functionality to do this. There is no word on price or, where this will go on sale, but we already know one thing: we want one. Discover some time quality PC Magazine Lance Ulanoff AVA passed after the break.
