Well, that didn't take long! Just a week after the collective piracy (and chr0nic misspellers) fail0verflow revealed a hack as private cryptographic key of the PS3 on a shelf, a hacker going by the nickname of "kakarotoks" took the next step, providing tools that will convert your ol vanilla PS3 firmware ' plain (yup, even the latest patch in 3,55 oriented security) in a new firmware custom fantasy. Capable of running signed and encrypted executable.PKG files... not unlike those that Sony itself uses to distribute PSN games. But this custom firmware is not all about piracy. KaKaRoToKS writes, "since the kernel is left, it means that this custom firmware is really aimed at the future install homebrew and it will not piracy." I will be keeping it. "We suspect this myriad of other, less scrupulous hackers don't share this sentiment. If you want an option "Install the Package files" section of your XMB game, PS3 - hacks .com has a guide for you. Peep a video of a custom install firmware after the break.
